Egyptian Wonders

From Lake Nasser through the Desert

Ideal Length of Trip:

12+
days
DESCRIPTION:

Egypt is adventure country par excellence and on this unusual journey we visit the rarely visited Western Desert with its sea of shifting sand dunes extending to the Libyan border. Returning to civilization, colossal pyramids and labyrinthine tombs inspire exploration in the grand tradition of Lawrence of Arabia or Indiana Jones. A four-day cruise on the Upper Nile from Abu Simbel to Aswan reveals less visited temples and tombs. Our ship, the M.S. Kasr Ibrim, combines traditional luxury with present-day comfort. On this journey it is the Egypt hidden behind the national treasures and natural wonders that we explore: the quiet, stark beauty of the desert, the traditional culture of the villages, the juxtaposition of Egypt’s rich monumental history and the modern urban sprawls of Cairo and Alexandria, and the astounding hospitality of Egyptians. Discover the many layers of Egypt as we tour must-see sites and explore an Egypt that few are privileged to experience.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL:

Egypt is best visited between October and April, when temperatures are cooler but still pleasantly warm across the country. The summer season from May to September is hot, although the high temperatures are alleviated by very dry air, air conditioning, far fewer visitors and lower prices; making summer still a viable season for your trip. There also tends to be a bit of a breeze on the Nile, making a river cruise a good choice during this time of year.
