Jewish Heritage of Morocco

Casablanca - Fes - Rabat - Marrakech - Essouria - Taroudant
DESCRIPTION:

Journey through the forests and Berber villages of the Middle Atlas Mountains, experience the colors of Fes, and discover Marrakesh – a city steeped in Jewish history. The lore of Casablanca, and Marrakesh, the vast desert, the Mosques, Palaces, and ancient markets serve as a vibrant backdrop to a fascinating Jewish story, rich and proud, representing the grandeur of Sephardic Jewry. Learn firsthand the complex reality of the Jews of Morocco, and explore the historic Jewish questions around identity and belonging, while enjoying the food, music, scenery, and the people of Morocco.

Stroll fortresses, gardens, and Kasbahs, meander ancient markets at sunset, when the circus-like activity is at its highest. Explore the ruins of Volubilis, Rome’s commercial hub for northwestern Africa until 300 CE, with its well-preserved mosaics that are still in situ. Wander the winding streets of several cities’ colorful leather tanneries, specialty bazaars, craft workshops and Jewish Quarters. Meet leaders of the Mimouna Association, which strives to preserve Morocco’s Jewish heritage.

Jews have been living in Morocco since the time of antiquity.
