Namibia Explorer

Discover the Colors & Diversity of the Desert
DESCRIPTION:

Imagine a landscape of colors unaccounted for in any crayon box…vivid orange and red dunes, for example, seemingly stretching to infinity. Add to this vision a collection of strange plants, stark and twisted yet exquisitely beautiful in their surroundings. Finally, fill it with primordial, prehistoric creatures like the armored rhino, diminutive desert elephant, or the rapier-horned oryx. This other-worldly destination is Namibia.

This country in Southern Africa is shaped by two of Earth’s most unforgiving forces: desert sands and arid mountains. Yet wildlife not only exists here, it thrives under adaptive regiments unseen anywhere else in Africa. People too have carved a rich and fascinating culture out of these landscapes. And in what is perhaps Namibia’s biggest surprise, travelers can not only visit this unique place easily, but with the highest standards of comfort, service, and luxury.

View wildlife in Etosha National Park where the mirage-like quality of the pan reveals a world of elephant, oryx, zebra, and giraffe. Drive through the geological wonders of Kuiseb Canyon, the best place to see the ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis plants that live for centuries. As you drive along the legendary Skeleton Coast you can witness thousands of seals at Cape Cross. Explore the San people’s rock engravings created on the red sandstone cliffs of Twyfelfontein, one of the most extensive collections of prehistoric rock art in Southern Africa. Venture into the Ongava Private Reserve, home to both the black and white rhino and part of the Kalahari Basin. Finally, visit one of Africa’s most critical conservation efforts at the Cheetah Conservation Fund in Otjiwarongo, where we learn about their research efforts and have a unique opportunity to see and to photograph rescued cheetah.
