Three Kingdoms of South Africa

History, Wildlife & Culture
DESCRIPTION:

In terms of diversity, South Africa is tough to beat. At the southern end of the African continent, it boasts multiple types of terrain, from the deserted Kalahari to the iconic Table Mountain; from Sabi Sand’s impressive wildlife to Lesotho deep in the Drakensberg Mountains. South Africa is home to deserts, mountains, escarpments, plateaus, grasslands, bush, wetlands and subtropical forests.

With 11 official languages, South Africa is also home to a diverse population of people, and within the country’s borders lie seven recognized “kingdoms” with varying degrees of autonomy. Visit three: Lesotho, KwaZulu-Natal, and Swaziland. With varying cultures and scenery they provide an unusual and fascinating twist to our trip. And, while here, we cannot ignore the top-notch game viewing, particularly at Phina Reserve and Sabi Sand Game Reserve, where we experience numerous ecosystems and one of the greatest spots in Africa for viewing wildlife.

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL:
South Africa is a year round destination due to its varying regional climates and wildlife opportunities. The Cape has beautiful hot, dry weather in its summer months, while winter months are the best for whale watching. The northern regions can be rainy throughout the hot summer months, but this can be superb for birding, while the cooler winter months bring some of the best conditions for viewing big game.
