Tanzania Wildlife Safari & Maasailand Trek
An Active African Safari

DESCRIPTION:
See Tanzania comprehensively: by vehicle and on foot! This unusual safari combines landscapes and people, and is perfect for the intrepid traveler who is inquisitive, adventurous, and active. Enjoy traditional game drives and stay in comfortable safari lodges, but then venture far off the beaten track, following Maasai cattle tracks on foot and camping in the shadow of the great volcano, Ol Doinyo Lengai.
Begin in the heart of Tanzania: the great Serengeti, where millions of animals roam freely. Visit another Tanzanian treasure, Ngorongoro Crater, a collapsed caldera that is home to some of the densest wildlife concentrations on earth. We then drive to the smaller, more remote, Empakai Crater, where peace, beauty, and tranquility abound and we overnight in dome tents. Drive further into Maasailand, where roads dwindle into mere cattle tracks, and our vehicles are left behind. From here the walk begins, with a donkey caravan ferrying the gear. Over the next two days become immersed in traditional, timeless Tanzania with lightly demanding trekking, exquisite calm, pristine scenery, and visits to Maasai villages for a deeper glimpse into their fascinating culture. Conclude at the alkaline shores of Lake Natron, a flamingo breeding ground, and rejoin the Land Rovers for the final leg of the journey, which meanders along the Rift Valley Escarpment to a luxurious lodge.
