Uganda: Pearl of Africa

& Home to Jane Goodall's Gorillas in the Mist
DESCRIPTION:

Uganda, called the “Pearl of Africa” by British explorers, is noted for outstanding beauty and diversity; it is where the East African savannah meets the West African jungle. Only in this impossibly lush country can one observe lions prowling the open plains in the morning and track chimpanzees and mountain gorillas in the afternoon. Join us as we search for wildlife including chimpanzee, elephant, hippo, leopard, hyena, lion— even ones that climb trees— and crocodile, just to name a few.

Explore enchanting Kibale National Park, where the ancient trees are home to chimpanzees. Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park and head into the Great African Rift Valley, where we safari by vehicle and cruise by boat looking for the large numbers of hippo and Nile crocodile. Most unforgettable: in densely packed forests reside Uganda’s most famous residents—the awe-inspiring mountain gorillas. As we search in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, these powerful and intelligent animals are an incredible reminder that there are still realms in this world where humans are visitors, and visitation is a privilege.

CONSIDER:

Uganda's tourism infrastructure varies from basic to luxury; typically the more remote, the more basic. Its people are among the friendliest on earth!

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL:
Uganda can be visited year-round, with fairly static temperatures throughout the seasons. However, it is best to visit during the two dry seasons: December through February and June through August, when conditions are ideal for trekking to see mountain gorillas and chimpanzees. Game spotting in national parks is also good at this time, as well as from September through early October when large numbers of wildlife can be seen at waterholes. Bird spotting is strong year-round.
